Gran Turismo 4 coming, are you ready?

Are you a driving sim nut? If so you probably know about the impending February 22 release date of Gran Turismo 4. So some of you must be prepping your screens and checking your steering wheels and set aside the $50 for the game.
Now check out what this hardcore simmer has set up. Each PS2 running 3 screens on a network. Words don’t do it justice. The site is all in Japanese but the photos are self explanatory.

So now that you’ve got your 3 screens set up what are you going to use for driving? My favorite has always been the wheel. For me it’s all about the UI. Sure the game may control easier with a PS 2 controller but nothing FEELS more like driving than an actual wheel.
In serious contention is the Logitech Driving Force Pro with a full 900 degree steering rotation. Finally, a manufacturer makes a wheel you can drift with! Of course Logitech is no marketing wallflower. They can sense a rabid driving simmer’s blood. In an effort to turn a reasonable game purchase into a dubious peripheral/game extravaganza Logitech is giving a $20 dollar rebate until the end of March with a purchase of GT4 or Midnight Club 3 (click rebate button on page). No extra credit if you, like me decide to buy both. So the $150 wheel goes down to $130. Certainly something to consider. Damn you Logitech. Damn you.
Punisher baditude fails to impress

The Punisher is a long time Marvel favorite. A vigilante similar to the Charles Bronson character in Death Wish, the Punisher was comics’ contribution to the vigilante pop iconography of the 70’s. Appearing at a time when violent crime in America was at it’s peak. Fictional heros like Dirty Harry and real life characters like Buford Pusser were popular for their ability to fight back at the criminals around them.
Do audiences still feel as under seige as they did then; no longer as connected with such a character? Could that be the reason why the recent Punisher movie died at the box office?
Violence certainly has gotten more graphic in movies, film and music. But nowadays there seems to be less purpose behind it other than showing off badtude for it’s own sake. A stylish affectation, a fashion accessory.
So we come to the Punisher game. All mean and ultraviolence but not really reflecting anything in society (as if we should expect video games to have any depth at this stage of it’s development.)
Plenty of creative kills, blood, rage, gunfire. Pretty much like any other similar shooter but maybe a bit more graphic. I had hoped Volition could come up with something better but nahhh.
