Xbox the Good, next gen Xbox to have wireless controllers

xbox wireless controllers

{embed="video-games/dpadz-ads"}Another day, another Xbox next rumor. Today, rumblings all around that the next version of Xbox will have wavebird like wireless controllers. I say yippee. About time we got rid of all those god d?#n wires! Now if Microsoft does it right they will have up to a 30 foot range and run on two easily replaceable AA Nimh rechargeables. Logitech has done it with their cordless Precision line of wireless controllers for the green box and PS2. The only beef I have with the Logitech’s are the price but with high volume manufacturing maybe Redmond will be able to bring the price down.

Another rumor is that Xbox next, 360 or whatever will come in two flavors. One version will include a hard drive and another without a hard drive to keep prices down. Kotaku has details on the new look and other details. Until E3, when Microsoft finally makes an official announcement (which they have yet to confirm) I’ll take all these rumors with a grain of salt even if they seem believable.

Xbox the Bad, over 14 million power cables recalled

xbox power cable recall

{embed="video-games/dpadz-ads"}Well the news is all over the place. Microsoft is recalling over 14 million Xbox power cables due to a potential fire hazard. The cables get hot enough that they can potentially start a fire. Microsoft’s suggestion, turn off the machine when you’re not using it. Gee, that’s something new for home entertainment isn’t it? Perhaps television and stereo manufacturers will give out warnings to consumers to turn off their gear unless they return home to a bright orange blaze in their living room. “Oh honey, did you remember to turn off the stove before we left on vacation. Yup. How about the fireplace? Sure did. Did you turn off the Xbox? OH MY GAWD, we’ll have to turn back before our place gets torched!”

Here’s the link to Microsoft’s site where you can get a replacement.

Worthplaying has a long list of toll free telephone numbers where you can call MS directly for a replacement. Thanks guys.

In case you missed the details here’s a good synopsis of the whole debacle.

Xbox 2, Xbox Next, Xbox 360 whatever you want to call it, out this fall

Whatever Microsoft eventually will end up naming their next system will most likely be introduced at E3 for an October release. Europe will get their’s around the same time. No word on a Japan release date yet but since the Xbox is staler than week old onigiri in the land of the rising sun. MS probably have different launch plans for that territory.
